ETH is sitting at 1,863 right now, down about 0.76% on the day. Doesn't sound like much, right? But this small drop is doing more damage than it looks like on the surface. Today's move pushed price right through the previous week's low around 1,900, and when that kind of level breaks on an otherwise quiet day, it usually means sellers are working in the background even if the candle itself looks harmless. Let's zoom out for a second because the yearly picture actually explains a lot of what's happening now. ETH opened 2026 up near 2,700 to 2,800, then rolled over hard and flipped bearish, crashing all the way down to around 1,750 by early February. That low held for a bit and even got confirmed as a real structure break, but it never really turned into solid ground. From there, price spent February through April just chopping sideways between 1,750 and 2,150, basically catching its breath before trying to push higher again in late April and May. That push got up to around 2,150 and then failed. Sellers stepped back in and took control again. The Drop to 1,650 (And Why It Might Not Be As Bad As It Looks) That failed rally in May kicked off the second leg down, and this time price didn't just retest the February low, it broke straight through it and fell all the way to around 1,650, the lowest point on the whole chart. Looking at it on its own, that seems like pure weakness. But if you look under the hood at the supply data, the story shifts a bit. For almost six months now, most of the ETH supply has been sitting at a loss, something like 45.7 million coins underwater compared to only 31.6 million sitting in profit. Now here's the thing, stretches like this, where most people are down but nobody's panic selling, tend to look a lot like accumulation once you step back and look at the bigger picture. Long term holders quietly buy into the fear while the weak hands slowly get worn out and leave. That same pattern looks like it's been playing out again since the June low. And it's not just a theory either. Whale wallets have been quietly stacking up, ETF demand has been picking up, and the validator queue has dropped all the way to zero. That last point is easy to miss but it actually matters a lot. When there's no wait time left to become a validator, it tells you long term stakers aren't hesitating to lock their coins up, and that's a conviction signal you won't see just by staring at price. Where The Key Support Battle Is Happening Right Now Since bottoming near 1,650 in June, price has clawed its way back up toward the 1,950 to 2,050 area, even reclaiming both the 26 and 50 day moving averages along the way. That whole zone is now stacked with overlapping levels. The previous month high and previous week high sit around 2,000 to 2,020, the previous day high just above that, and the previous day low around 1,975. All of that sits just under the declining 100 day EMA near 1,935, a level that's already rejected multiple bounce attempts this year. On the 4 hour chart, that same general area lines up with the 78.6% retracement of the May to June selloff, and price already got turned away from it once near 1,929. So basically, the key support test is happening in a pretty tight window right now. On the upside, resistance is stacked from about 1,929 up to 2,043, with 2,043 being the real line in the sand. On the downside, the previous week low near 1,900 just got taken out today, and the next real support doesn't show up again until 1,750, which lines up with both the previous month low and that old weak low from February. The Plan For Bears If you're leaning short here, the trigger is continued rejection under 1,929 to 1,935. A clean break and close below today's low opens the door back toward 1,750 first, and if that level fails too, the 1,650 low from June becomes the next real target since that's the last major pocket of liquidity left on the chart. This trade gets invalidated if price closes strongly back above 1,935, since that would mean bulls have reclaimed the EMA that's been capping every rally attempt since May. The Plan For Bulls The long side needs a bit more patience. Ideally you'd want to see price hold above 1,750 to 1,800 on a retest, since that zone has acted as both support and resistance multiple times this year and lines up with the accumulation story from the supply data. A reclaim of 1,935 followed by a close above 2,043 would flip the whole structure bullish and open the path toward the untested strong high supply zone at 2,400 to 2,450, a level that hasn't been touched since May and represents the biggest liquidity pocket left on the chart. This long setup gets invalidated if price breaks decisively below 1,750, since that would undo the higher low structure that's been building since June. Momentum is still leaning constructive for now, sitting in the high 50s without tipping into overbought territory, which gives bulls some breathing room if the broader market cooperates. But right now, price action is calling the shots, and price action is bearish until proven otherwise. The macro range for the year remains 1,650 on the low end and 2,800 on the high end, and ETH is still stuck in the lower middle third of that range, which tells you this fight is far from over. $ETH
