Kenanga: Malaysia's short-term exports remain strong but may slow down in the second half of the year, with cautious investment signals(1) Kenanga economists pointed out that driven by inventory accumulation and demand for electrical and electronic products, Malaysia's export growth is expected to remain strong in the short term. However, as the base effect fades, export growth may slow down in the second half of the year and trade flows will also normalize. (2) They believe that although US-Iran negotiations have eased geopolitical risks, downside risks such as supply disruptions, US policy uncertainty, and weak global technology demand still remain. (3) Robust exports in May are expected to drive second-quarter GDP growth above 5%, but imports of capital goods have contracted for two consecutive months, reflecting cautious investment sentiment. Whether this momentum can continue into the second half of the year remains a concern.

So far, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has been coordinating most of the negotiation work, told me he is confident this time that the Middle East crisis can be eased.
