<p>Two years after going public, social-media platform Reddit is joining the S&amp;P 500. It will replace AvalonBay Communities, a real-estate investment trust that is being bought by fellow S&amp;P 500 member Equity Residential, creating a vacancy in the index.</p> 
<p>Reddit will take AvalonBay's spot before trading opens on Aug. 18, S&amp;P Dow Jones Indices said after Thursday's close. Reddit shares popped ahead of the bell Friday in anticipation of buying by passive funds that track the S&amp;P 500.</p> 
<p>As of Thursday, the stock had fallen almost a third this year driven by concerns AI models will divert traffic from Reddit's message boards.</p>

It will replace AvalonBay Communities, a real-estate investment trust that is being bought by fellow S&P 500 member Equity Residential, creating a vacancy in the index. Reddit will take AvalonBay's spot before trading opens on Aug. 18, S&P Dow Jones Indices said after Thursday's close. Reddit shares popped ahead of the bell Friday in anticipation of buying by passive funds that track the S&P 500. As of Thursday, the stock had fallen almost a third this year driven by concerns AI models will divert traffic from Reddit's message boards.
