The 291,000 sales deficit is quite significant, as both companies had been in a neck-and-neck global EV race. In April 2025, BYD outsold Tesla in Europe for the first time, with 7,230 battery-electric vehicles sold while Tesla recorded 7,165 sold, according to data compiled by JATO Dynamics.
