2. Benefits of the unified trading account
-
Unified margin: share margin balances across spot, margin, and futures trading.
-
Cross-product PnL offset: PnL across products is calculated on a net basis.
-
Enhanced capital efficiency: maximize the value of your assets and reduce idle funds.
-
Simplified asset management: manage assets without transferring between accounts.
-
Advanced risk controls: multiple layers of automatic protection keep your account risk in check.
-
Multi-asset margin: use assets such as BTC, ETH, and USDT as margin based on their collateral ratios.
3. How is margin calculated?
In Basic Mode and Advanced Mode, assets in your account are converted into a unified USD margin value based on each asset's collateral ratio. This margin value supports your spot, futures, and margin trading:
Account adjusted equity (USD) = Σ (asset quantity × applicable USD index price × applicable collateral ratio)
Collateral ratio primarily reflects an asset's liquidity and stability, generally as follows:
|
Asset type
|
Discount details
|
|
USDT / USDC
|
Highest collateral ratios, with little to no haircut.
|
|
Major assets such as BTC and ETH
|
Collateral ratios are tiered by holding amount—the more you hold, the lower the relative ratio.
|
|
Long-tail / small-cap assets
|
Generally subject to lower collateral ratios.
|
For complete asset discount rate details, refer to the collateral ratio overview.
Put simply: your account's 'Total Assets' and 'Effective Margin' aren't the same number. Non-stablecoin assets are subject to haircuts, so the more small-cap assets you hold, the bigger the gap between your total balance and what you can actually use as margin.
4. Auto-borrowing and auto-repayment
The unified trading account supports auto-borrowing and auto-repayment across assets, so you don't need to manually transfer funds to cover margin:
-
When the balance of an asset falls below zero due to trading, opening positions, or unrealized losses, the system automatically borrows that asset to keep your positions operating normally.
-
Any subsequent earnings, realized profits from closing positions, or deposits in that asset will automatically be used first to repay the borrowed amount.
This lets you trade products your current holdings wouldn't normally support—for example, using BTC as collateral to open USDT-M Futures positions. The system handles all the borrowing and repayment automatically in the background, so all you need to watch is your overall account risk.
Borrowing incurs interest. For interest calculation rules, interest-free quotas, and repayment priority, refer to the unified trading account borrowing interest overview.
5. How is risk managed?
The unified trading account continuously monitors your account risk level:
-
Under Cross Margin Mode, the system assesses risk using your account's overall maintenance margin ratio: as long as it stays within a safe range, all your cross-margin positions remain open. If it exceeds the safe threshold, you'll first get a warning—and if no action is taken, the system may reduce your positions in tiers or liquidate them, following applicable rules, to protect your funds and other users' funds.
-
Under Isolated Margin Mode, the margin for each position is independent from other assets in your account. When the mark price of an isolated position reaches its liquidation price, only that position will be liquidated and other account assets will not be affected.
For specific warning thresholds, tiered reduction rules, and the liquidation process, refer to the Margin and Risk Management and Trading Rules: Liquidation Process articles. Before you start trading, we recommend reviewing these materials so you're ready to manage risk—for example, by setting stop-loss orders and topping up your margin when needed.
6. How do I set my account mode?
Follow the steps below to select your preferred account mode:
1. On the trading page, click Trading Settings > Account Mode.
2. Select your preferred account mode from the available options.
3. Ensure your account meets the switching requirements.
7. What changes after enabling the unified trading account?
-
Your account balance and assets will be shared across all trading products.
-
All margin and PnL will be calculated within the same account.
-
A robust risk-control system helps safeguard your funds and manage your margin exposure.
