Vertex (VRTX): The Exchange That Combines the Best of DEX and CEX

What is Vertex?

Vertex is a DEX on Arbitrum that provides a comprehensive suite of trading services, including various financial instruments such as spot trading, perpetual contracts, and money markets. The diverse suite of products allows users to access different types of trading activities within the same platform.

What sets Vertex apart is its fusion of a fully on-chain trading venue, an off-chain sequencer, and a unique hybrid orderbook-AMM design. The hybrid approach eliminates the limitations of traditional DEX models, offering users the best of both worlds: the control of self-custody and the performance of CEXs.

How Vertex Works

Vertex combines the best of both worlds, CEX and DEX, by combining an on-chain trading venue and risk engine with an off-chain sequencer, forming a hybrid orderbook-AMM DEX. The on-chain components ensure transparency and self-custody, while the off-chain sequencer provides lightning-fast order matching, competing with the speed of centralized exchanges.

The Unique Hybrid Design of Vertex

Vertex's integrated AMM operates on-chain, contributing to liquidity alongside an orderbook. This AMM ensures trades are executed at the best available price, offering advantages like lower gas fees compared to Ethereum L1.

Meanwhile, the off-chain sequencer acts as a central-limit order book (CLOB), offering low-latency order matching. It's the engine that powers Vertex's high-performance trading, achieving order-matching execution speeds between 10 - 30 milliseconds. Even in the rare event of sequencer downtime, users can fall back to the on-chain AMM. As the sequencer moves towards decentralization through Vertex governance, users are less likely to have to compromise control for performance when using DeFi in the future.

Three Core Products of Vertex

Vertex offers three core products: Spot Markets, Perpetual Markets, and Money Market. The integration of these three in one platform allows users to trade their favorite assets, speculate on price movements, and earn interest – all without switching between different DeFi applications.

Spot Markets

Spot Markets of Vertex is where you buy and sell crypto assets for immediate delivery and payment. Think of it like a traditional exchange where you can trade your favorite assets 24/7, and the best part is, you always retain custody of your spot assets on-chain.

Perpetual Markets

Perpetual Markets introduce a fascinating twist to the mix. These are perpetual futures contracts that let you speculate on the price movements of crypto assets without actually owning them. Leverage up to 10X amplifies your exposure or hedges your risk.

Money Market

Vertex’s Money Market is where users can borrow and lend in a decentralized manner. Everyone can earn interest on their idle assets or borrow against their portfolio margin. Vertex integrates this money market directly into the DEX, creating a convenient and secure financial environment for users.

Tokenomics

VRTX is the native utility token of Vertex that incentivizes long-term commitment to the ecosystem. Those who stake VRTX, do marketing for the protocol, use Vertex, or refer friends and family to use the platform are eligible to receive rewards in VRTX tokens.

Additionally, the introduction of the voVRTX token score enhances this incentive structure. voVRTX is a non-transferable token that multiplies incentives based on the duration of staking VRTX. This secondary token can be received by staking VRTX.
